Guide
How to generate a favicon
Use this favicon generator to turn a single logo into the complete set of icons a website needs — browser tabs, iOS home screens, Android launchers, and a real multi-size favicon.ico. It also writes the HTML tags and web manifest for you, so nothing is left to guesswork. Everything is produced in your browser.
- 1
Upload your logo
A square image of at least 512 by 512 pixels gives the sharpest result. Non-square images are centre-cropped rather than squashed.
- 2
Choose a shape and padding
Keep it square, or round the corners or use a circle. Add padding when your mark runs right to the edge of the image.
- 3
Generate the set
Seven PNG sizes are rendered along with a favicon.ico containing the 16, 32, and 48 pixel versions browsers request.
- 4
Download and install
Take the ZIP, copy every file into your site's root folder, and paste the supplied link tags into the head of your pages.
Favicon problems this tool solves
- A browser tab shows a blank page icon because no favicon was ever added.
- The icon looks sharp on desktop but blurry when a site is saved to a phone home screen.
- You have a PNG but the site still needs a real favicon.ico at the root.
- You are unsure which sizes are actually required and which link tags to add.
- A logo with no padding is cropped awkwardly inside rounded home screen icons.
Frequently asked questions
What sizes do I need for a favicon?
At minimum 16 and 32 pixels for browser tabs, 180 for Apple touch icons, and 192 plus 512 for Android and progressive web apps. This tool generates all of those, plus 48 and 96, in one pass.
Does this create a real favicon.ico?
Yes. It builds a genuine multi-size ICO containing the 16, 32, and 48 pixel images, not just a renamed PNG. That is what browsers look for at /favicon.ico.
Where do I put the files?
Copy them into the root folder of your website so they resolve at addresses like /favicon.ico and /apple-touch-icon.png, then add the link tags shown after generating.
Why does my favicon not update?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Try a hard refresh, open the site in a private window, or append a query string such as /favicon.ico?v=2 to the link tag.
Is my logo uploaded to a server?
No. Every icon is rendered with the Canvas API in your browser and the ZIP is assembled locally, so an unreleased logo stays private.
