How to convert HEIC photos to JPG

Use this HEIC to JPG converter when iPhone photos will not open on Windows, will not upload to a website, or cannot be attached to an email. HEIC is the format Apple devices use by default, and most non-Apple software still cannot read it. This tool decodes HEIC and HEIF files with WebAssembly inside your browser, so your photos are never sent to a server.

  1. 1

    Add your HEIC photos

Drop .heic or .heif files from your iPhone, iPad, or a photo backup onto the tool. You can add up to 30 photos in one batch.

  2. 2

    Choose JPG or PNG

JPG is the safest choice for uploads, email, and printing. Pick PNG only if you need a lossless copy for editing.

  3. 3

    Set the quality

Leave the JPG quality near 90 percent for photographs. Lower it if you also need a smaller file for an upload limit.

  4. 4

    Convert and download

The decoder is fetched once and reused for the whole batch. Download photos individually or take the entire set as a ZIP.

HEIC problems this converter solves

  • Windows Photos shows an error or asks you to buy a codec before it will open a .heic file.
  • A website or job application rejects your photo because it only accepts JPG or PNG.
  • Email attachments arrive as unopenable HEIC files for anyone not using an Apple device.
  • Photo editors and older printing services do not recognise the HEIC format at all.
  • You have a folder of iPhone photos and need every one of them converted before sharing.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is Apple's default photo format on iPhone and iPad. It stores the same image in roughly half the space of a JPG, but most Windows and Android software still cannot open it without extra codecs.

Are my photos uploaded to convert them?

No. The HEIC decoder runs as WebAssembly inside your own browser, so your photos are never transmitted. Most other HEIC converters upload your files to their servers first.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

There is a small quality loss because JPG is a lossy format, but at 90 percent quality the difference is not visible in normal viewing or printing. Choose PNG if you need a completely lossless copy.

Why is the converted JPG larger than the HEIC?

HEIC uses newer, more efficient compression than JPG, so the same photo usually takes more space as a JPG. Lower the quality slider if the file needs to be smaller.

Can I stop my iPhone creating HEIC files?

Yes. Open Settings, tap Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG, though existing HEIC photos still need converting.
